NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2008 Welcome to the Kaizen Academy's email update on forthcoming events. There are a lot of events in December, so please read the newsletter and note the events that apply to you. |

In this month's Newsletter:
New Kyoshi Four of our Sensei, Fiona Ramsay, Kim Sawers, John Neiman, and Rob Forlong, are attending their Godan promotion in Christchurch over the last weekend in November. When they return to the Dojo, please greet them with a very loud Kiai. They have all put in an amazing amount of effort and time over the last few months into their preparations for this promotion. Their commitment should serve as an example to all Karateka whether Kyu grade or Black Belt. First Wednesday of the Month Next Wednesday, 3 December 2008, is the first Wednesday in December. The first Wednesday combined class will run from 6pm to 7:30 pm and will be followed by Pizza and drinks. All Black Belts, Kyu grades and beginners are invited to attend. Shihan Ben would like you to invite your friends and work colleagues to the First Wednesday of the Month class. So "Bring A Friend".The first whole week in December, Monday 1 December 2008 to Sunday 7 December 2008, is stripe testing week. If you wish to be tested for one of your stripes, please talk to your instructor before class so they know you need to be tested. Black Belts - If you can assist with running classes while the class' normal instructor is stripe testing students it would be appreciated by the instructors. Shihan Ben on Leave Shihan Ben will return from leave next week and should be in the Dojo from Wednesday 3 December 2008. The next Kyu grading for all grades and ages is on Saturday 13 December 2008.
You will need to have achieved ALL Three Stripes before you are eligible to grade. Your Training Fees will also need to be up to date. There will be NO classes on the afternoon of the grading. NO Afternoon classes on Saturday 13 December 2008 Owing to the December Kyu Gradings running into the afternoon there will be NO afternoon classes on Saturday 13 December 2008. The final day for classes in 2008 is Thursday 18 December 2008. The first day for classes in 2009 is Monday 5 January 2009. There will be reduced Kids classes in January 2009 with only one class, open to all kids, on each day from Monday through Thursday. Normal kids classes will resume from Monday 2 February 2009. See our January 2009 email newsletter for more details. There will be a Black Belt meeting at the Dojo on Wednesday 17 December 2008. This meeting replaces all evening Black Belt classes. The meeting starts at 6pm and will go on for about one hour. Following the meeting is the Black Belt Dinner for 2008. All Black Belts are requested to attend. The following Dinners and parties are on in December:
Kagami Biraki is the formal celebration of the start of our Karate year. In 2009 Kagami Biraki will be held on Saturday 17 January 2009 starting at 6am. Please remember to bring food and drink for a shared breakfast at the Dojo after Kagami Biraki. There will be no other morning classes on Saturday 17 January 2009. Afternoon classes will run as normal. If you want to get some karate training in on Saturday morning, be at Kagami Biraki or miss out. Summer Beach training will be held at Oriental Bay on Sunday 25 January 2009. Beach training will be at Oriental Bay and will start at 9am. Beach training replaces all other Sunday morning classes on that day. The 2009 Summer Camp for Seido Karate in the Wellington region will be held from Friday 13 February 2009 to Sunday 15 February 2009 at Forest Lakes Camp south of Otaki. Keep this weekend fee and plan to attend. 2009 Seido Karate Internation Event and Benefit Tournament Seido Karate South Africa is hosting an International Event and Benefit Tournament in 2009. The event will be held in Cape Town from 3 December 2009 to 6 December 2009. Karateka from Seido Dojos all over the world will be attending this event. If you think that you would like to attend, please let Senpai Rebecca Mason,the Club Captain, know, and we will see if we can get a team together. If you have lost any clothing, please look in the lost property box located by the shoe rack and claim what is yours. A selection of photos taken at the Halloween Class are now posted on our website.
