First Wednesday of the Month

Next Wednesday, 6 August 2008, is the first Wednesday in August.

This combined class will run from 6pm to 7:30 pm and will be followed by Pizza and drinks.  All Black Belts, Kyu grades and beginners are invited to attend.

Training Fee Increase for 2008

The Kaizen Academy has decided to increase Training Fees by the change in "Cost of Living" over the past twelve months.   The change amounts to an increase of $3 per month for adults and $2 per month for all other membership groups.   These changes come into effect from 1 July 2008.   

If you have an automatic payment could you please ensure that the amount is changed for any payments on or after 1 July 2008.   

Stripe Testing

The first whole week in August, Monday 4 August 2008 to Friday 8 August 2008, is stripe testing week.  If you wish to be tested for one of your stripes, please talk to your instructor before class so they know you need to be tested.   

Black Belts - If you can assist with running classes while the class' normal instructor is stripe testing students it would be appreciated by the instructors.   

There will be no stripe testing on Saturday or Sunday 9/10 August as we will be hosting the 2008 Seido North Island Tournament.  

August Seido North Island Tournament   

Over the weekend of 9/10 August 2008 The Kaizen Academy will be hosting our third Seido Karate North Island Tournament.   

Saturday 9 August 2008 will feature Individual and Team Kata, and Points and Semi-Contact Sparring for people aged over 16.   

Sunday 10 August 2008 will feature Kata, Tag, Sumo and Points sparring for people aged 6 to 15.   

We have approximately 80 entries for each day making a total of about 160 competitors.  If you are not competing, please feel free to come along and support/cheer on the people in the Tournament.   

September Kyu Grading   

The next Kyu grading for adults and Green belt and above children is in September.  (The next Kids grading for those below Green belt is on 26 July 2008)   

Saturday 13 September 2008 for adults, and all green belts and above.  Checkin 8:30 am.  Grading starts 9:00 am.   

You will need to have achieved ALL Three Stripes before you are eligible to grade.   Your Training Fees will also need to be up to date.    

National Black Belt Clinic   

The 2008 National Black Belt Clinic is being held in Nelson from Friday 12 September 2008 to Sunday 14 September 2008.   Attendance is recommended for all Black Belts.   Please fill in your registration forms and leave them with Chris at the front desk.   

Lost Property   

If you have lost any clothing, please look in the lost property box located by the shoe rack and claim what is yours.

Karate Kyohon Karate Kyohon is an illustrated book by Kaicho, the founder of the Seido style of karate. It contains all the information you need to get to Green belt level, and then a bit more.
