First Wednesday of the Month

Next Wednesday, 2 July 2008, is the first Wednesday in July.

This combined class will run from 6pm to 7:30 pm and will be followed by Pizza and drinks. All Black Belts, Kyu grades and beginners are invited to attend.

Shihan Ben would like you to invite your friends and work colleagues to the First Wednesday of the Month class. So "Bring A Friend".

Training Fee Increase for 2008

The Kaizen Academy has decided to increase Training Fees by the change in "Cost of Living" over the past twelve months.

The change amounts to an increase of $3 per month for adults and $2 per month for all other membership groups.

These changes come into effect from 1 July 2008.

If you have an automatic payment could you please ensure that the amount is changed for any payments on or after 1 July 2008.

Stripe Testing

The first whole week in July, Monday 7 July 2008 to Sunday 13 July 2008, is stripe testing week. If you wish to be tested for one of your stripes, please talk to your instructor before class so they know you need to be tested.

Black Belts - If you can assist with running classes while the class' normal instructor is stripe testing students it would be appreciated by the instructors.

June Nidan Grading

The Nidan promotion for Senpai Yvonne Van Velzen, Bronwen Dickson and Julie Herron is on Saturday 28 June 2008 starting at 5am.

ALL Black Belts are requested to attend.

ONLY Black Belts can attend this grading.

June Shodan Grading

The Shodan promotion for Zak Murdoch is on Saturday 28 June 2008 starting at 9am.

ALL Black Belts and Kyu grades are invited to attend.

There will be NO normal classes in the morning of Saturday 29 March 2008. Afternoon classes will run as normal.

Kid's School Holiday Programme July 2008

The School Holiday Karate Programme is going to be held again in the July 2008 school holidays.

Dates: Tuesday 15 July 2008 to Friday 18 July 2008
Times: 9am to 12 Noon.
Costs: $50 for all four mornings or $15 per morning.
Ages: Minimum age is 10 years old, except by arrangement with Shihan Ben.

If any adult, kyu grade or Black Belt, is able to assist Shihan Ben, please contact Shihan.

July Kyu Grading - Kids

The next Kyu grading for children is in July.

Saturday 26 July 2008 for kids below green belt.

Checkin 12:30 pm.
Grading starts 1:00 pm.

You will need to have achieved ALL Three Stripes before you are eligible to grade.

Your Training Fees will also need to be up to date.

Please note the change of time for the Kids grading. At now starts at 1pm in the afternoon, rather than in the morning. Normal classes will run in the morning, while the grading will replace all afternoon classes.

August Seido North Island Tournament

Over the weekend of 9/10 August 2008 The Kaizen Academy will be hosting our third Seido Karate North Island Tournament.

Saturday 9 August 2008 will feature Individual and Team Kata, and Points and Semi-Contact Sparring for people aged over 16.

Sunday 10 August 2008 will feature Kata, Tag, Sumo and Points sparring for people aged 6 to 15.

Plan on making this a good weekend by beginning your training for these events now.

September Kyu Grading

The next Kyu grading for adults and Green belt and above children is in September. (The next Kids grading for those below Green belt is on 26 July 2008)

Saturday 13 September 2008 for adults, and all green belts and above.

Checkin 8:30 am.
Grading starts 9:00 am.

You will need to have achieved ALL Three Stripes before you are eligible to grade.

Your Training Fees will also need to be up to date.

National Black Belt Clinic

The 2008 National Black Belt Clinic is being held in Nelson from Friday 12 September 2008 to Sunday 14 September 2008.

Attendance is recommended for all Black Belts.

Please contact Kyoshi Doug if you wish to attend.

Lost Property

If you have lost any clothing, please look in the lost property box located by the shoe rack and claim what is yours.
