March 2008

Osu! Karateka,

NEWSLETTER MARCH 2008

Welcome to the Kaizen Academy's email update on forthcoming events.

IMPORTANT - First Tuesday and First Wednesday of the Month

The usual General class on the first Tuesday of the month is being moved to the first Wednesday of the month.  The class will run from 6pm to 7:30 pm and will be followed by Pizza and drinks.  All Black Belts, Kyu grades and beginners are invited to attend.

Shihan Ben would like you to invite your friends and work colleagues to the First Wednesday of the Month class.  So "Bring A Friend".

Meditation class - Tuesdays at 8pm

Starting from Tuesday 4 March 2008 our meditation classes will be lead by Zen students from Zenz Wellington.  The classes will involve 35 minutes of Zazen (seated meditation), followed by 10 minutes of Kinhin (walking meditation), a further 35 minutes of Zazen, and will then finish with some chanting.

Kaicho believes that meditation forms a core component in the development of Seido Karate students.  If you are interested in meditation I encourage you to come along and learn from the Zenz Wellington students.

You do not need to stay for the full 90 minutes of the meditation class.  If you can stay for only thirty minutes, then that’s okay, as the break between Zazen and Kinhin will be a convenient time to excuse yourself.  I hope you can make use of this new dimension to further develop yourself and your karate.

Protective Headgear for Children (Under 16 years)

From the start of 2008 ALL Green belt and above students under the age of 16 will be required to wear suitable protective headgear during all sparring events (classes, gradings, and tournaments.)

If you do not have suitable protective headgear you will NOT be allowed to participate in sparing events.  There will be NO exceptions.
