NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2008 Welcome to the Kaizen Academy's email update on forthcoming events. Start of Seido Karate Classes for 2008 Formal classes in Seido Karate start on Monday 7 January 2008. Please check out our website for the complete timetable of classes. Two changes have been made to the training timetable. These are:
We have decided to reduce the number of Kids classes in school holiday periods due to the decreased number of students who attend these classes in the school holidays. The timetable of Kids classes in the school holidays will be as follows: Mondays Tuesdays Wednesdays Thursdays Sport Karate Classes Sport Karate classes run by the Kaizen Academy will begin again on Friday 18 January 2008 at 5pm and Sunday 20 January 2008 at 3:30 pm. Kagami Biraki Kagami Biraki, the formal start of training for the year, will be held on Saturday 19 January 2008 starting at 6am. All students are invited to attend this event. Training starts at 6am with a general class suitable for all grades and ages. Training will then be followed by a shared breakfast at the Dojo. Beach Training Beach Training at Oriental Bay will be held again on Sunday 27 January 2008 at 9am. We will meet on the long beach to the left of the Rotunda shortly before 9am. Be there "Rain or Shine". Beach training is suitable for all grades and ages. Kids are most welcome. Beach Training will replace the normal Sunday morning classes. 2008 Summer Camp The 2008 Summer Camp for Seido Karate in the Wellington region will be held between Friday 15 February 2008 to Sunday 17 February 2008. Details of the camp are currently on our notice board and on our website. The camp is one week earlier than previously notified. Keep this weekend fee and plan to attend. Protective Headgear for Children (Under 16 years) From the start of 2008 ALL Green belt and above students under the age of 16 will be required to wear suitable protective headgear during all sparring events (classes, gradings, and tournaments.) If you do not have suitable protective headgear you will NOT be allowed to participate in sparing events. There will be NO exceptions. Suitable protective headgear can be purchased at martials arts shops - Martial Arts Supplies, Made in Nippon and Fuji Mae - or at Rebel Sport. We will have a small selection of protective headgear that you can borrow at classes, but you should purchase your own protective headgear. March Kyu Gradings The next Kyu gradings are in March.
You will need to have achieved ALL Three Stripes before you are eligible to grade. You Training Fees will also need to be up to date. Remember that Grading fees, Honbu fees and new belt costs are now included in your monthly training fee. Lost Property If you have lost any clothing, please look in the lost property box located by the shoe rack and claim what is yours. Photos on Website A selection of photos taken at the September Kyu Gradings, the Spring Training at Mt Kaukau, and Senpai Jeremy Steven's Shodan grading are now posted on our website.Senpai If you are interested in purchasing copies of these photos please email webmaster@seidokaratewellington.co.nz . Karate Kyohon Karate Kyohon is an illustrated book by Kaicho, the founder of the Seido style of karate. It contains all the information you need to get to Green belt level, and then a bit more. The Human Face of Karate The Human Face of Karate - My Life, My Karate-Do is the auto-biography of Seido's founder Kaicho Tadashi Nakamura. It recounts his early life and karate, his move to New York to set up Kyokushin Karate in America, his splitting from Kyokushin and the founding of Seido Karate. New Stock has just arrived from New York. Price $60 - Currently sold out. New copies are being ordered from New York. Technique and Spirit Technique and Spirit is Kaicho's first book on Seido Karate. It includes much that is in Karate Kyohon, but also covers weapon techniques and more about Kaicho's philosophy for Seido Karate. Price $60 - Currently out of stock.
