NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2007 Welcome to Kaizen Academy's email update on forthcoming events. First Tuesday of the Month - ALL
Grades Tuesday, 4 December 2007, is the first Tuesday in December. The normal 6pm Beginner's class and the 7pm General class are replaced with a combined class for all students - Beginner's, graded members and Black belts. Shihan Ben would like you to invite your friends and work colleagues to the First Tuesday class. So "Bring A Friend". The class runs from 6pm to 7:30pm and is followed by a small social with pizza and non-alcoholic drinks. First Wednesday of the Month -
Black Belts Wednesday, 5 December 2007, is the first Wednesday in December. The normal 6pm Black Belt class for Sandan and above and the 7pm Black Belt class for Shodan and Nidan are replaced with a combined Black Belt class. This class runs from 6pm to 7:30pm. Please remember to bring your sparring gear. Black Belt Gradings Congratulations to the following Black Belts who graded recently:
Senpai Bruce, Chris and Marion all graded to Sandan, Senpai Graeme to Nidan, and Senpai Jeremy to Shodan. Senpai Ed Siddle is the last Black Belt scheduled for a grading this year. Senpai Ed's promotion to Sandan is at 5am on Saturday 8 December 2007, before the December Kyu grading. December Kyu
Gradings The next Kyu gradings are this month.
You will need to have achieved ALL Three Stripes before you are eligible to grade. You fees will also need to be up to date. Remember that Grading fees, Honbu fees and new belt costs are now included in your monthly training fee. Fundraising for New Seating at the
Dojo At the December gradings, Galit Maxwell, whose son Sol trains with us, will have a series of three large colouring in posters, between A2 and A1 in size, available for purchase. Posters cost $8 each and come in three versions - Magicland, Superworld and Aotearoa New Zealand. These posters make an ideal gift for creative kids. They come rolled up for easy transport and are printed on heavy card, 240 gsm. Proceeds from the sale of the posters will go towards the purchase of new seating for the Dojo. Example of the posters will be on display. You can purchase copies on the day and take them away with you. Seido Karate End of Year Parties The end of year parties for Sedio Karate are on the following dates: Kids: Saturday 8 December 2007 - 4pm at the Dojo Adults: Saturday 8 December 2007 - at D4 - 143 Featherston Street, First floor, Entrance next door to SecuraCopy - Arrive any time after 6pm. Black Belts: Wednesday 12 Decemebr 2007 - After 7pm . Place to be determined. If you are interested in attending any of these events please reply to this email with details about who will be attending any of these parties. Black Belt Meeting There will be a Black Belt meeting at the Dojo on Wednesday 12 December 2007 at 6pm. All Black Belts are invited to attend. The meeting will be followed by the Black Belt dinner. 2008 Summer Camp Just some advance notice that the 2008 Summer Camp for Seido Karate in the Wellington region will be held from Friday 15 February 2008 to Sunday 17 February 2008. This is one week earlier than notified in the last email newsletter. Keep this weekend fee and plan to attend. Lost Property We are accumulating a pile of lost property at the Dojo. If you have lost any clothing, please look in the lost property box located by the shoe rack and claim what is yours. Photos on

Books If you want to know more about Seido Karate and the techniques that you are learning we have a number of books available for purchase. Karate Kyohon Karate Kyohon is an illustrated book by Kaicho, the founder of the Seido style of karate. It contains all the information you need to get to Green belt level, and then a bit more. Heavily illustrated, it covers stances, punches, blocks, kicks, kata, self-defense and kihons. New copies are being ordered from New York. Price $60 The Human Face of Karate The Human Face of Karate - My Life, My Karate-Do is the auto-biography of Seido's founder Kaicho Tadashi Nakamura. It recounts his early life and karate, his move to New York to set up Kyokushin Karate in America, his splitting from Kyokushin and the founding of Seido Karate.
